It’s apparent how much fun Qdup and EVeryman had while writing the lyrics for Joyride. They were on tour driving between gigs and pulled inspiration for being on a Joyride to the party. For these remixes, Qdup commissioned a few good friends to hop in the whip and reimagine the ride. First up is old friend and fellow Washington, DC native Wes Smith who relocated to San Diego, CA. Rusty Cravers is the new Future House side project of Vancouver’s Wood n Soo who are good friends from western Canada and part of the Danio Management family.
You may know Wes Smith from his releases on Punks Music and his own Juice Recordings imprint, Wes has really made a name for himself in recent years with his remixes and original production. This is the second Wes Smith Remix on Fort Knox Recordings, and his musical diversity shines well on this remix as he pumps up the tempo to a Jacking Funky House vibe. Wes Smith let EVeryman’s lyrics lead the track and drops a huge 808 fueled breaks breakdown in the middle which is sure to set the dance floor ablaze!
Rusty Cravers push the tempo up as well and remixed Joyride into a bass-driven Future House banger destined to wreck dance floors worldwide. Laden with infectious dark keyboard leads and more dubbed out vocals let their clean production style come through. Huge horn stabs push a driving house beat and a devastating sub bass that can flex any sound system set the tone for their trip to the party!
Release: Get Up ft. Jerome Joyce
Label: Fort Knox Recordings
Catalog #: FKX110
Qdup is back with another sure-fire dance floor bomb and this time he teamed up with Jerome Joyce, an MC that splits his time between Detroit and Los Angeles. This collaboration came out of a chance meeting at Northern Nights Music Festival while Fort Knox Five and Qdup performed there last year. As they were walking between festival stages, Jerome Joyce dropped a fresh freestyle over some beatbox beats that Qdup dropped, and they immediately knew they had to work together. The result is “Get Up”, a slice of hip-hop driven, mid-tempo breaks that captures the fun of that spontaneous freestyle which inspired this track.
“Now up everybody throw your hands to the sky, we gonna party like it’s over and the planet could die.” There will be no parking on the dance floor while this cut is on! Qdup delivers a bubbly stomping beat that sits directly in the funky pocket while Jerome Joyce effortlessly locks into the swing of the track and gets the party hyped. Party raps, and Qdup’s tight production sets the mood, while the infectious hook entices the dance floor to “Get Up.”
Qdup’s updates classic funk with new school production, as the East Coast meets West Coast vibes shine through loud and clear. DC’s go-go influence is felt with Rototom driven beats and a swing that will make you feel like you’re at a block party in Washington, DC. Underneath it all is a rump shaking bass line that would make Bootsy Collins proud.
Qdup included a sneak peek of the track in his 2017 Promo Mix for the fourth annual DC Funk Parade. Stay tuned for more Qdup tunes and remix singles forthcoming on Fort Knox Recordings in 2017. This package includes a DJ friendly collection of mixes that include the full vocal, instrumental and dub mixes.

Release: Give It A Minute ft. bcap
Label: Fort Knox Recordings
Catalog #: FKX109
Building on the momentum of last year’s hit single “Don’t Go” Fort Knox Five return to the studio to collaborate with bcap, a fresh rhymeslayer from Boston, on the new tune “Give It A Minute.” The sound of this new single reflects FK5’s musical sensibilities and exposure to new sounds from touring worldwide. The result is a catchy, Future Funk, bass-heavy, Go-Go meets Glitch-Hop track that is sure to shake booties around the globe.
After Fort Knox Five remixed “Smoke Machine” by Ursula 1000 featuring bcap on vocals, they were eager to get him in the studio for an original production. Brian Capobianchi, aka bcap, first vibed with the Fort Knox family while WXGR was lauching ESL Radio a few years ago, in support of Thievery Corporation and their label. Recorded around the New Year, bcap’s party-rocking and thought-provoking lyrics were dropped on top of some raw beats and his bluesy, NOLA-style vocals – in the vein of Dr. John – inspired Fort Knox Five’s production.
The Washington, DC infuence can be heard throughout the track, with giant Roto-toms, a steady pulsing beat and a relentless Go-Go percussion workout. As usual, guitars rule the day for Fort Knox Five. Where other producers might use synthesizers, the group puts the guitar in the spotlight, treating it as a synth throughout. Rob Myers’ funky, rubber band licks provide the melody and the hooks, while the chunky beats and sub-bass propel the song. With nods to old-school retro-funk and the native Go-Go scene, “Give It A Minute” sets a new standard for the future sound of DC.
The DC Funk Parade picked Future Funk as the 2017 theme and “Give It A Minute” could be the anthem for the event. As bcap says in the track “Still the people keep playin’ my song.” Get ready to hear this infectious, funky-groover at festivals and boomin’ out of Jeeps all summer long! Stay tuned for remixes coming soon, while an instrumental version is also included on the single.
